Literature in Barcelona
Introduction
If you are interested in the literary delights that Barcelona has to offer then you have come to the right place. Over the years this city has produced some stellar pieces of work which are now available in several languages for your enjoyment. The list below is a handpicked list of Barcelona-born authors who have shown their talents on several occasions over the years and now you can get to know them all and enjoy the written word that is offered!
- Juan Marsé - Born in 1933, Marsé was originally an apprentice jeweller. He was a talented individual who lived in France and had been teaching Spanish. He also won the Planeta Prize in 1978 which gave him the reputation that he is known for today.
- Eduardo Mendoza - Eduardo Mendoza Ceballos, who originally studied law and worked for the United Nations as an interpeter, has famous novels such as La verdad sobre el caso savolta (TheTruth About the Savolta Case). Another excellent work is La ciudad de los prodigios (The City of Marvels).
- Mercé Rodoreda - A novelist that attracted a lot of attention especially during the postwar period, her work has successfully depicted aspects of the Spanish Civil War. One of the best pieces that she produced was Twenty-two short stories.
- Carlos Ruiz Zafón - A writer who had also used his talent to write scripts. Some of his best pieces include , some of his best pieces include El juego del ángel (The Angel's Game), La sombra del viento (The Shadow of the Wind) and El príncipe de la niebla (The Prince of the Mist). He has a talent of visualising his writing in a cinematic way.
- Manuel Vázquez Montalbán - Manuel was an individual who had a list of talents that reflected his character. He had a gift for poetry with a ironic tone throughout and he won the national narrative award. Notable pieces include El hermano pequeño (The little brother).
