Football

First of all, it is a well known fact that Madrid has some prestigious sporting teams which have collected a legion of loyal fans and this is because of passionate players through the history of the sports. To start, Madrid is home to the massively successful Real Madrid football team, who play their home games at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.

The endless number of fans are known as Meringues. Real Madrid have won many titles which include La Liga, UEFA Champions league, Copa del Rey and UEFA Cup. The list of famous players who have been with the team over the years is endless. However, the talent doesn't stop there, as in many cities there will typically be more than one team representing and the missing piece in this picture is filled with the passionate Atlético Madrid S.A.D.

Playing in red and white stripes they play at the Estadio Vicente Calderón and have always posed a respectable challenge to their brother team. Ask any madrileño and generally you will find that they are strongly in favour of one of the two. Both teams play in La Liga - Spain's top division - which offers some exciting games in their stadium. The atmosphere really steps up when there's a derby game, meaning the two Madrid teams face off!

Basketball & Tennis

Moving on from football, the Madrid basketball team, known as Real Madrid Baloncesto, was founded in 1932 and have since racked up a whole range of titles, including over 20 Spanish Cup Championshiops. If you are more a fan of tennis, there is also the Madrid Masters tennis tournament, which attracts top talents from the ATP. Generally each summer the athletics kicks off and European events take place where you can see some real world class talent. If you want to go check it beforehand as tickets can go quickly.
