Football
For football it becomes more than a game for the fans and players alike, this is a primary characteristic in Spain and Malaga's club dont mess around they qualified for the UEFA cup in the 2001 and 2002 season awhich marked a turn around of their performance. The 2004-2005 season brought about the promotion of new coach Antonio Tapia who saved them from the relegation zone from there it did eventually catch up with them with excessive financial pressures. Currently they have been in the La Liga for a good few years and only dropped for a couple of years to the lower league in the 2006-2008 seasons. To kick things of head to Rose garden where you can be one of scores of people the 35000 person stadium.
Basketball
The team known as UNICAJA is becoming widely recognized as a continously growing team that is sure to make headlines in the near future. First recognized after chasing the prize in 1995 it was clear they were eventually going to strike gold. This happened in 2001 with their first ever trophy which was the Korac cup. In the 2004-05 season they really made heads turn with their victory for the Spanish Kings cup. They have displayed for over a decade that they are a hungry team and are prepared to chase down victory so you can be guarenteed an exciting game.
A unique event is during the August festival, a boat race which is similar to rowing in other cultures.
