History in Marbella
Introduction
In marbella there have been several groups who had settled before the coming of Christ, this goes as far back as the 7th century BC where the Phoenicians were first on the scene. The Romans were in control for a period as clear remains of structures have been found such as Rio Verde Villa. The Visigoths followed historical suit when they were next in control, they created the Vega del Mar Paleo- Christian Basilica.
The Moors were tagged in next as they made some real significant changes as they were the first to make any remaning documented reference to Marbella. The military aspect of the city increased as it was transformed into a walled city. Though the Moors reign was over in 1485 when King Fernando took over he made significant changes to the structure of the town destroying many buildings with any influence of the Moors. He then continued by building over the structures with his new christianed themed buildings. Some of the buldings included the medina which is known as the old town today agriculture was a significant aspect in regards to the economy and this bring a lot into the cultural history of marbella.
