Introduction

When you arrive in Pamplona and you have dropped off the bags you will then have to ask yourself what is there to do? Apart from being taken back from all the impressive architecture surrounding you there is an abundance of new and exciting things to check out, pick up a local newspaper to see whats going to be around during your stay but otherwise take a look below it has been broken down into sections depending on your tastes so all you need to do is decide on what you fancy and the rest is taken care for you!

Nightlife

  • Plaza del castillo, the main square that holds the reputation for being a bargain so dont expect smartly dressed cosmo socialites as it kicks back with a much more relaxed atmosphere.
  • Jarauta street, the alternative vibe is presented with this stretch where it is common practise to close up the normal day to day business for a set of ars that cause an energetic vibe that will get anyone tapping their feet. There will be a great selection of genres going on for you to have a wide selection.
  • Tejeira street, For a european feel then check out some of the dance music that circulates in this street with some modern bars helping you to get into the party.

Museums

  • Museo Diocesano, when you head down there you can expect to find all thats going on with the cathedral. It has some great pieces of romanesque and gothic work, you can also find a mixture of baroque and renaissance pieces.
  • Museo de Navarra, A great demonstration of the history of pamplona where you can find some great pieces including goyas the marquis of san adrian this ranges all the way down to roman mosaics.
  • Museum of javier castle, The birthdplace of san francisco xavier, it has pieces of memorabilla that depict the life of the saint. Though its purposes had originally been to defend against attackers.
  • Monastery of Irache, This monastery had originally been from the 10th entury. It also acted as a hospice by king garcia of najera.

La Pamplonesa

La Pamplonesa, started in 1919 to welcome in the three kings festival and provide an electric atmosphere to compliment the occasion it supports. It started off as three separate military bands, after a short period they disperesed to later regroup as a civillian band, Thir first official performance as the band they are known as today was on the 11h of october in 1919. It took many years to be assigned a wage which was due to their commitment to performing at festivals and it gave them the chance to pay off some debt.

Running of the Bulls

Although it takes place every year around different locations the run in pamplona carries the title for most popular a basic run down of the events is the runners singing the prayer to Saint fermin which is then followed by it all kicking off at 8am. From there a rocket is fired to signify that the gates are open to run and after running down the street that has been barriered it then eventually ends up in the bull ring. If you were interested in taking part then your likely to have six bulls and six steers running with the crowds of people in white and red. You have to be at least 18 and there are a few ground rules such as no running under the influence of alcohol.
