Introduction

If you trace back the history of Spain in particular Pamplona you will find an interesting mixture of the past events, it had been inhabited for several centuries to the Romans first occupation. It has the name of iruna in Basque, it used to be a Roman outpost that raised its popularity It was named after the guy in charge. Pompey the great and he decided to name it Pompaelo, it hasnt changed much since its roman occupation which provided some great sightseeing, During the middle ages the Visigoths took over from the Romans and they ruled for around four hundred years.

Soon after as usual the Moors took over and during that period there was a lot of fighting for power control, It was the first official vascon city giving it a strong sense of cultural history. The 11th century seen some interesting events that boosted the economy that helped the society, the 12th century dropped the ball as there were several fights with those inside the city and this led to the construction of the walls to defend one another.

During the 16th century Pamplona became the capital for the kingdom of Navarra, due to its location it became one of the most important outposts as it was rather close to the french border, the French in pervious centuries had tried to take power in the metaphorical tennis match for power. It couldn't really continue with its expansion because of the walls surrounding the town and the purpose they served though they did make some great improvements to the city.
