Introduction

Salamanca is home to many great individuals who have been blessed with some impressive skills and talents, one of which is the written word and if you are interested in learning more about the works of some of the Salamanca's own then take a look below and you can see everything from dramatists to poets.

  • Carmen Martín Gaite- Born in 1925, she captured the thoughts and dramas that plagued people throughout half a century some of her best work includes the back room.
  • Miguel de Unamuno- A writer that now has his own museum in dedication to his achievements, he believed that writing and life were strongly linked. He was a professor at Salamanca university.
  • Juan Meléndez Valdés- A member of las Sabatinas (a school of poetry) and was arguably the strongest member, he certainly caught the majorities attention as many people consider im as one of the best poets of the 18th century.
  • San Juan de la Cruz- A student in Salamanca he wrote three pieces which grabbed the attention, these include: 'Dark night of the soul, Spiritual Canticle and living flame of love.
  • Antonio de Nebrija- A really strong figure who did an incredible amount for the Spanish language as well as all romantic languages he published work such as Introductiones Latinae and Gramatica de la Lengua Castellana.
