Sports in Salamanca

Football

UD Salamanca founded on the 16th of March 1923, they play at Estadio el Helmantico although they are currently in the Segunda division. Sports in Salamanca is just one of the great things that will keep you entertained throughout your time.

The top of the list is football with Salamanca being in the second division and a fierce team, the founder Frederick Anaya the team initially played in the 1st division under the management of Jose Luis Paniagua in the 1970s. During the 90s the club changed from a company sports club and Juan Jose Hidalgo Acera paid 81 million pesetas to cover the capital to salvage the club.

Basketball

Basketball is the younger brother of football in Salamanca as the local team was only founded in 1993 and has grown as a club ever since. they have played well in the ACB league and qualified for the Korean cup in previous seasons. Though the interesting twist to the story is the fact that the women's team is much more popular than the men's and have proved to be very successful.

Bullfighting & Golf

Salamanca a great venue which is called "La Glorieta" you can be one of the 10,000 spectators who get to enjoy the controversial sport. there are some challenging golf courses waiting for you to test your handicap with beautiful scenery thrown in as an extra, with natural hazards scattered around if you feel your up for giving it a go then you can check out one of the courses which include: Campo de Golf de Salamanca and Campo de Golf Villamayor.
