Literature in Sevilla
Introduction
Here are some of the most notable writers from Sevilla
- Mateo Alemán- 16th century novelist who studed at Seville university from a jewish decent though pressures from the inquisition caused him to be a forced Roman Catholic and his best work was arguably Guzman de Alfarache. It follows the story of a street juvenile named Picaro
- Lope de Rueda- is a spanish dramatist who has been regarded as the founder of the national theatre, he was just prior to the golden age of writing in spain but surely contribute to it becoming what it was.
- Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer- was one of the most influencial wrters in spai and although most of his work wasnt released until his death his work is now frequently used in education, His style related to post romanticism and his most famous work came in the form of Rhymes and the legends.
- Vicente Aleixandre- He won the nobel prize for literature in 1977 and he was also a member of the generation of 27
- Antonio Machado- A spanish poet who was one of the members that was involved in the generation of 98, his first set of poems was published in electra and one of his most famous pieces comes in the form of Campos de Castilla.
- Manuel Machado- A strong member of the generation of 98 and one of his strongest pieces of work included La Lola se va a los Puertos, he was the brother of Antonio Machado.
- Luis Cernuda- A member of generation 27 he used surrealism in his work as a form of exploration and he was passionate to have a more tolerant Spain which rejected any form of facism. His most popular pieces of work included la realidad y el deseo and ocnos, variaciones sobre un tema mexicano.
