Festivals and Holidays in Tenerife

  • January- Fiesta de San Antonio Abad, A great festival that is for all the family where there are a variety of sporting events and parties. Festival de Musica de Canarias, locatd in Santa Cruiz's concert hall with one of the biggest european classical music festivals that occurs around late January.
  • February- Tenerife Carnivals, kicking off with the carnival queen competition and it has a great set of floats that are paraded through, it comes along with some energetic music.
  • March- Holy Week- In regards to holy week there is several days that help to create the procession, the first of which is the parade of the nazarenos in their long hooded gowns and all holding crosses which is followed by a marching band. On topof that there is also the brotherhood parade where scores of locals will hold up and show off their creative talent on the religious floats they have made of figures such as the virgin mary.
  • April- Judas Fiesta, It is aimed at riding the towns sins and this is done by burning a figure that represents Judas Iscariot the man who betrayed jesus.
  • May- Dia de la Cruz, the day of the cross which had the element of creating crosses made of flowers, it is in memory of Saint Helen who's son was in fierce battle and dreamt of his loss a dream later that night shown that a cross would save him which was constructed and he later won the battle and believed it was thanks to this prediction through the dream. From there Saint Helen went to find the real holy cross and her whole family dedicated themselves to it.
  • June- Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival, it has a ton of music and dancing that gets everyone involved.
  • July- Festival internacional Canarias Jazz and Mas Heineken- Its a set of jazz concerts that go on over a set period which really brings in the crowds with some real groundbreaking fusions of genres for example a band called ST Fusion has the combination of traditional Japanese music that goes hand in hand with jazz and other western mixture of styles.
  • August- Festival Son Latino, A latin music festival with a ton of energy and it has had some famous musicans along for the ride, most of the time you will see performances of famous groups on the beach whilst huge crowds gather to enjoy the show.
  • September- Fiesta del Santisimo Cristo, a religious occasion that is accompanied by music
  • October- Dia de la Hispanidad, this festival celebrates the traditions and heritage of Spain
  • November- Wine Festival, a selection of wine tasting events
  • December- New years eve, similar celebrations to what is seen all around the world with fireworks going off all in the run up to midnight.
