  • Tomas de Iriate y Opopesa, a neoclassical poet who first entered into his literary passion at the age of 14 he had a figure to look up to as his uncle was the librarian to the king of Spain. His talents also stretched to the point of languages where he eventually became an official translator, one of his notable pieces of work includes 'Fábulas Literarias'.
  • José Viera y Clavijo, He started as many talented writers have done as a child and started composing several poems, it was the youthful age of 14 that his first piece of work was published. He served for a period as a pastor and some of his notable work includes historia de Canarias as well as being a member of the academy of history.
  • Domingo Pérez Minik, He was a Spanish wrtier of the 20th Century, he recieved several gold medals from Bellas Artes, his books were donated to the Biblioteca Publica del Estado de Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It contains a high volume of books and documents, his work includes 'Debates Sobre el Teatro Español Contemporáneo' and 'Entrada y Salida de Viajeros'.
  • Ángel Guimerá, A language writer, he created a number of brilliant lays one of which is very popular under the name of Terra Baixa, one of the most interesting facts about this particular piece is that it has been translated into 15 languages and had been made into a film. He was also a nominee for a nobel prize though due to certain issues at the time he wasn't able to win the award, the real eye opener to his popularity was realised when he had his funeral in Barcelona and it was one of the biggest state funerals seen in the city.

Newspapers

  • El Dia- Its daily newspaper for Tenerife and was created in 1910 which covers everything from Sports to the latest business jobs that are up for grabs.
  • La Opinion de Tenerife- Similar to the el Dia with its own personal touch it was created in 1999, growing in popularity breaking into the new millenium.
  • Diario de Avisos- This newspaper comes in as the veteran it has proven to stand the test of time with it beginning publication in 1890, with both the hard copy and internet sights its a brilliant way to keep in the loop for all the latest news.
  • Tenerife news - For those who prefer an English alternative if the Spanish is a little overwheming with all the stories of the day that will cover you from A to B.
