Football

Currently playing in La Liga they are a top flight team who first established themselves in 1922 though the la liga was created another 6 years later, they battled in the lower divisions over the next couple of decades. They have got themselves a respectable reputation with beating teams such as Real Madrid, they were led into promotion by current liverpool manager Rafael Benítez. They fell into some serious debt in the following years, their fans are named 'Chicharreros' because when the club first came around the fans were eating mackerel called chicharros in a majority with their famous players including Ricardo and goalkeeper Luis Garcia.

Basketball & Lucha Canaria

Based in San Cristobal and the team is officially named Tenerife CB though the team is known in competitions as Tenerife rural, like most teams in Spain they are much younger than the football teams as it first started in 1996 and currently play in the ACB. Their stadium holds over 5,000 seats for the loyal fans. One of the interesting alternatives for Tenerife sports is called lucha canaria where there will be a fight between tow men in a ring, it is similar to wrestling where the aim is to get a part of the opponent apart from their feet on the floor. It is a tradition that has been developed over the years and has grown to be popular in Tenerife.

Finally there is an aquatic twist to the proceedings and you will be pleased to know there are some beautiful beaches in Tenerife and sunbathing isn't the only thing on the to do list, watersports are a popular event in Spain and the location is perfect for accomidating windsurfing.
