Literature in Valencia
Introduction
Valencia has produced some interesting characters along its history and if you find yourself interested in reading some genuine Valencian literature then check out a few of the names below for some ideas to kick you off:
- Guillén de Castro- A golden age writer, his contribution was considered one of the greatest by the valencian community and he first broke into his career through the Lope de Vega theatre. One of his most notable pieces came with the introduction of El Cid, he also spread his talents to venture into the military service where he served as the Calvary Captain of the Coast of the kingdom.
- Joanot Martorell- He had a termoil within his personal life, his family had already been involved with those who were talented in the written word, his claim to fame was in the form of Tirant lo Blanc which is thought to be the first european novel.
- Vicente Blasco Ibáñez-A realist writer who had originally studied law but didnt really go onto progress with it, one of his most notable pieces of work is 'Los Cuatro Jinetes del Apocalipsis'. His work was full of energy which was something that reflected in his personal life and he was a big fan of Miguel de Cervantes.
- Josep Maria Bayarri- His main writings were poetry and in later life he aided in producing two poetry magazines, some of the notable pieces of work include: 'Romans from Lourdes', 'Roger de Flor' and 'Recs de Pan'
